What the numbers say

Ohio State's accreditation page gives its class of 2026 a 92.4% "ultimate pass rate" on the NAVLE, which counts passes across both testing windows the college names, so it is not a first-attempt figure. That class of 2026 result, as the school reports it, is the only NAVLE figure posted, and no national rate appears with it. The IPEDS completions data credit Ohio State with 164 DVM degrees conferred in 2024-25. An Ohio resident in the first year (VME 1) pays $40,440 in tuition and fees to Ohio State for 2026-27. Applications must be submitted and verified through VMCAS by September 15, a date shown without a cycle year, so check the program's page. Ohio State asks for an overall GPA of at least 3.2 and a science GPA of at least 3.0, and it no longer requires or reviews the GRE. Named prerequisite courses include biochemistry, microbiology with its lab, physiology and a communication course in public speaking. Full accreditation from the AVMA dates to July 2022, the college says. Median earnings for graduates of Ohio State's veterinary medicine first professional degree field reach $108,615 1 year after completion for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 cohorts, per College Scorecard. Among graduates of that field who completed in 2017-18 and 2018-19, College Scorecard shows $132,986 4 years after completion. BLS OEWS puts the 2025 median wage for Ohio veterinarians at $125,060.
